Pediatric Dental Cleaning

Almost as soon as teeth appear in your child’s mouth, a regular dental cleaning schedule should be established to keep those teeth healthy, strong, and free from cavity and decay as your child grows. Baby teeth are just like grown-up teeth: They are vulnerable to tartar and plaque, and they can develop cavities and become infected. Fortunately, Dentini Pediatric Dentistry is here to ensure that doesn’t happen.

It’s important to remember that, while baby teeth are not meant to last forever, they do play a major role in how your child’s adult teeth will emerge. Decayed baby teeth can also make your child very uncomfortable and less likely to eat. In short, the health of baby teeth matter, so don’t neglect them!

The first step before a pediatric dental cleaning is scheduling an examination for your child. Most dental authorities recommend that children be given their first examination by dentists after their first tooth emerges, but before their first birthday. If your child is ready for an examination or cleaning, contact us today to set up an appointment time with our dentist that is convenient for you.

Our dental staff at our offices in the Houston Heights and West U area will examine your child’s teeth, gums, jaw, and bite. If we detect any stains, tartar, or plaque buildup during the visit, the dentist will also perform a pediatric dental cleaning to remove it. We will also show you (and your child) the proper way to clean and floss a kid’s teeth. (By age two, you should be brushing your child’s teeth with a toothbrush, and by age six, he or she should begin brushing his or her own teeth.) We recommend scheduling a followup visit about six months after the cleaning to reassess how things are progressing with your little one’s teeth emergence and oral health.
