Pediatric Restorative Dentistry

Sometimes, children’s teeth need a little dental work performed in order to improve or restore overall oral health. Some children face higher natural risk factors for tooth decay, damage, or disease than others. The dental professionals at Dentini Pediatric Dentistry are experienced, patient, and gentle enough to restore any child’s precious smile.

Restorative dentistry refers to the prevention and treatment of diseases of the teeth in order to restore or bring them back to their best health. Restorative dentistry also includes the repair or replacement of damaged or defective teeth.

Restorative dentistry procedures performed by Dentini Pediatric Dentistry include:

  • White zirconium crowns
  • Silver stainless steel crowns
  • White fillings for both front and back teeth

We are happy to discuss which option best fits your child’s needs.

Not to Ignore

It’s critical not to ignore any dental problems that your children experience even though they may affect “baby teeth” only. The health of baby teeth have a direct effect on the growth and emergence of adult teeth, and any cavities or diseases involving baby teeth can have serious consequences to your child’s diet and overall health and comfort. As dental healthcare experts, we recommend that every child visit the dentist for an oral health examination every six months or so in order to have his or her teeth cleaned and to assess any dental treatment that may be necessary.

Before

Before any work is done, our pediatric dentist will review your child’s x-rays. Next, we will discuss the details of the treatment plan with you and your child, including the options available to ensure the comfort of your child throughout the process or procedure.

Overcoming Children’s Dental Anxiety

The staff at Dentini Pediatric Dentistry are highly experienced at assisting children who experience intense anxiety at the dentist. We strive to ensure that our dental office in the Heights is always safe and welcoming for all children. On a case by case basis, we will also evaluate each patient and recommend medication or sedation if needed.

Nitrous Oxide:

If your child feels anxious before or during treatment, we can provide nitrous oxide to help them relax without putting them to sleep. Nitrous Oxide, or laughing gas, is a type of sedation dentistry that works by inhaling a gas though a small breathing mask which is placed over the child’s nose.

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, recognizes this technique as a very safe, effective technique to use for treating children’s dental needs. The gas is mild and easily taken, then quickly eliminated from the body with normal breathing. While inhaling nitrous oxide/oxygen, your child remains fully conscious and keeps all-natural reflexes.

Sedation Dentistry

If your child is very apprehensive due to anxiety or emotional maturity we offer conscious sedation.  It is used safely and effectively to calm your child and to reduce discomfort associated with dental treatments. Your child may be quite drowsy, and may even fall asleep, but they will not become unconscious.

There are a variety of different medications, which can be used for conscious sedation. The doctor will prescribe the medication best suited for your child’s overall health and dental treatment recommendations. We will be happy to answer any questions you might have concerning the specific drugs we plan to give to your child.

IV sedation is offered for younger children who have a lot of cavities and are very nervous about their visit. We have a board-certified anesthesiologist administer anesthesia in the office and continuously monitor to ensure your child is safe and comfortable.
